Program

in the footprints of the early Christians

Journey to the historic capital Mtskheta at the intersection of the Military- and the Silk Roads. The Jvari Church (7th c.) lies picturesquely on top of a mountain ridge, like a crystal tip rising out of a crag.  The church is classified as the perfect example of early Christian architectural style “croix libre”.
The mighty Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c.) in the centre of Mtskheta is the heart and soul of Georgia. It is the place where Christianity in Georgia took its origin, as numerous nearby churches and chapels of the earliest centuries still bear silent witness today. A visit to the Samtavro Church round off the day trip.
The final destination of the day trip is the Cave-Monastery Shiomghvime, one of the oldest monasteries in Georgia (6th c.). The crossed-dome church of John the Baptist (6th c.) is built deep into a rock; and the entire place is of paradise-like inviolacy.
