Journey to the historic capital Mtskheta at the intersection of the Military- and the Silk Roads. The Jvari Church (7th c.) lies picturesquely on top of a mountain ridge, like a crystal tip rising out of a crag. The church is classified as the perfect example of early Christian architectural style “croix libre”.
The mighty Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th c.) in the centre of Mtskheta is the heart and soul of Georgia. It is the place where Christianity in Georgia took its origin, as numerous nearby churches and chapels of the earliest centuries still bear silent witness today. A visit to the Samtavro Church round off the day trip.
Upon request (at additional cost) we can visit a family wine estate IAGO’s Marani near Mtskheta. Since many years the viticulturist has revived quite a few old endemic vines and produces fine organic wines according to the Georgian kvevri method. At a dinner together with the family, we experience the Georgian table culture first hand.
